Brazilian Rhythm and Dance

Join Claudia Lyra (Nos de Chita) and Renata Secco as they teach the infectious Brazilian rhythms and dances of Jongo and Samba de Roda.

Jongo is a  traditional dance and musical genre of Brazil which originated in the coffee fields of São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.

Samba de Roda is a traditional Afro-Brazilian dance performed originally as informal fun after a Candomble ceremony. It appeared in the state of Bahia, during the 17th century.

Percussion Class: 1pm - 2pm - $10
Claudia will teach the rhythms on traditional percussion instruments.

Dance Class: 2pm - 4pm - $30
Claudia and Renata will teach the traditional dances that accompany the rhythms. Drummers are encouraged to stay and play as the teachers engage the students in the techniques and movements.
