“I remember that winter because it brought the heaviest snow I had ever seen. It had snowed steadily through the night and I woke up in the morning to a room full of light and silence. The whole world seemed to be held in a dreamlike stillness, it was a magical day and it was on that day I made the snowman.”

THE MAKING OF COSMIA

When the idea came about to turn Natasha Khan's story Cosmia into a children's play, we knew it was going to be an out-of-this-world experience.

Cosmia was going to be our first play with a live audience in two years, since the pandemic began. This wasn’t just any play. It was an original story from the mind of Natasha Khan that had been adapted just for the Kalabash stage.

Twenty kids were cast in the play and we had 10 weeks to bring the story of Cosmia to life. Thanks to the helping hands of our Kalabash community, we were able to make that dream a reality.

This is a short film about the making of Cosmia. In the words of the filmmaker Dorka Hegedus.

“This film is a big thank you. Thank you for the precious years when my children had a second home at Kalabash. For the friends we made there. Thank you for the beautiful stories, and for showing us that there was a place where it was possible to go big, to go all out with courage, and share the most precious corners of our hearts. How fortunate we all were.”
